About the ACCB The American Career
Certification Boards (ACCB) mission is to define professional
standards for the entry level position. In a society where lifelong
learning is a mantra and where it is expected that the average
worker will need to retrain for a whole new career two to three
times in a life time, there is a need to define the skills required
at the entry level. Because of our rapidly changing economic
conditions, many experienced and mature workers find themselves
applying for an entry level position in a field for which he or she
has just been retrained. These individuals are not without working
experience, just not any experience in the new field they just
retrained for.
Many voluntary certification programs
either impose or imply prior experience before examination can be
considered. This is understandable when a certification is aimed at
demonstrating professional skills and experience.
The ACCB makes no claim of prior
experience for its candidates, instead it provides a level playing
field and a set of professional standards of knowledge and awareness
of the factors critical to success for a new entrant in a new
career.
Benefits of professional certification
at the entry level are
For the employer: The employer, when
recruiting a new entrant into a new profession will more than ever,
need an objective measure of the skills and knowledge that the new
recruit brings to the table. This is all the more true as references
for the job at hand will not be available.
For
the employee: The employee when applying for a job in a
totally new profession will appreciate the added confidence that a
credential provides and will feel significantly less "empty handed"
with a certification corroborating a minimum level of knowledge and
competence.
